Short Description

The Floating Park Island is a conceptual Floating Wildlife Sanctuary designed by the architect Mariana Cabugueira in collaboration with the Visual Artist Diego Castro Posada. This project proposes a floating Botanical Island and a wildlife Habitat located in the open sea of the Western Pacific Ocean.

The project arose from the desire to propose Design and Technology as a solution for the problem of Habit Loss in the Western Pacific Ocean. The rapid rise of the Pacific Ocean and overly-built-land is considered to be one of the biggest problematics for Wildlife and Seabirds who travel North and South in the migratory route of the East Asian Flyway.

This Floating Park and Habitat Island is described by a succession of open and semi open natural spaces, responsible for protecting and promoting the growth of the Pacific Plant species; and protecting/providing food, shelter, breeding and Key Stops for Migratory Birds on their open sea route.

As for humans, they will be allowed in specific days of the year and hours of day, leaving the night for wildlife privacy. Human activities include nautical sports and classes held by the Activities Center: Kayaking, Sailing, Swimming, Bird Watching, Leisure and tours through the botanical areas. The Floating Park Island is reachable by air and sea. People and public tours are allowed to arrive and depart the island within a buffer time in the morning and late afternoon.

This project proposes a floating Botanical Island and wildlife Habitat located in the open sea of the Western Pacific Ocean, open by day for Learning, closed by evening for WildLife.
